Our projects in Slums

FOREM has used different approaches among them the youth ideas of income generating activities. Whereby we are raising funds to complete public toilets, to purchase a truck for garbage collection, purchasing land and reclaiming it for farming and drilling of boreholes to solve water problems. The construction of public toilets was seen as a good idea since the slum does not have enough toilets to serve the slum dwellers, hence they would be able to generate revenue from that gap. This can only be achieved by them having some money to start the business. The organisation has taken upon itself to also guide them on ways to save money. This is through Saccos and Chamas. We also focus on counseling them about sex, healthy living and drug and substance use. This has been of great help to the youth of Nairobi County. FOREM has been financing widows to run small scale businesses. Going forward we want to organise counseling sessions for the widows and people who are HIV positive.
